I read this question in an article the other day, “Are you working for what you do not want?”
It hit me like a ton of bricks! I thought back to times when I thought what I was doing was the most important thing in the world to me. I was focused on the day-to-day tasks and outcomes, rather than the big picture of what made me feel valued, challenged, and whole.
When you are working for what you do not want, it can feel like you are on a hamster wheel where you must keep moving all the time. The result is the same – you go round and round – until you jump off. And that’s when you feel lost…
Some people ask the question, “what’s this all for”? Others go through the motions and only start exploring when they have a chance to stop and think – usually a debilitating illness, death of a loved one, or some other significant life event.
What if you started asking this question now – Am I working for what I do not want?
-
Are you working for money only?
-
Do you want to enjoy what you do?
-
Do you want work to not feel like “work”?
-
Would you like more joy in your day?
-
Do you have a clear picture of what you want?
At several points in my life, I had to face this question. So much so that when I got laid off from a corporate job, I went through a process of tweaking and reinventing my career. The process was one that I had followed many times during my life, but it wasn’t until this significant life event that I formalized the process in book form (Your Next Chapter: 5 Steps to Creating the Life of Your Dreams). So many women asked me how I had done it, I thought a book would offer them the process and exercises to learn the concepts and apply them in their own life.
You can begin your journey by asking the pivotal question I have offered here. I’m so interested in hearing what you think about what comes up for you.
If you want to talk about it in more depth, please feel free to schedule a short-targeted call with me HERE.
