Welcome back to our Midlife Magic series.

We’ve journeyed through the initial spark, the rediscovery of identity, the dance with doubt, and the creation of a new vision. Now, we arrive at the most exhilarating and nerve-wracking stage of all: taking the leap. This is where the rubber meets the road, where dreams and visions are put into action. It’s the moment we choose to embrace change, not as a terrifying unknown, but as a grand adventure.

FOR ME, IT BEGAN WITH A PAINFUL LAYOFF

For me, taking the leap meant dealing with the sudden loss of a secure, well-paying job to start my own coaching and consulting business. The fear was immense, and the thought of giving up that stability was terrifying. My inner critic was on overdrive, whispering all the reasons why it was a foolish, reckless decision. I spent months agonizing over the choice, creating endless pro-and-con lists, and seeking advice from everyone I knew. The turning point came when I realized that the fear of staying the same had finally outweighed the fear of the unknown. I was more afraid of a life of “what ifs” than I was of failure.

If you want to listen to me telling a bit of my own story, you can listen HERE.

I REALIZED I HAD TO BUILD A BRIDGE TO A NEW LIFE

The solution was not to take a blind leap, but to build a bridge to my new life. I started by taking small, manageable steps. I went through professional coach training to hone my skills, and I started networking with other entrepreneurs. I also built a support system of women who believed in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself. When I finally put the new business into gear, it wasn’t a leap into the void, but a confident step onto a bridge I had carefully constructed. Prioritizing myself meant not just dreaming of a new life, but doing the practical work to make it a reality.

MANY WOMEN LIKE YOU HAVE THE DESIRE FOR CHANGE

This desire to take a leap into a new career is a powerful force in midlife. While only 7% of workers change jobs annually by age 45, a significant number are contemplating it. This suggests that while the actual leap is less common, the desire for change is widespread. The fact that pay growth for women often peaks around age 44 can be a powerful motivator for seeking new opportunities and challenges. It’s a time when we are reassessing our value and our potential, and we are no longer willing to settle for less than we deserve.

HAVE FAITH IN YOURSELF

Taking the leap is a profound act of faith in yourself. It’s a declaration that you are worthy of a life that excites and fulfills you. Whether your leap is a career change, a move to a new city, or the pursuit of a long-held passion, the key is to prepare, to build your bridge, and to surround yourself with a community that will cheer you on. This stage of Midlife Magic is about embracing the beautiful, messy, and magical process of becoming the woman you were always meant to be.
